Stephon Odle, a 2017 graduate of SUNY Old Westbury, has been added as the assistant men’s basketball coach as announced by head coach Bernard Tomlin.

Odle, a two-time team captain, helped Old Westbury advance to the Skyline Conference Championship semifinal in each of his four seasons (2013-17) on campus.

“My parents would always stress how important it was to make the best out of all of your opportunities,” said Odle.  “This is something that I always lived with and I am fortunate to have been blessed with many opportunities.  The chance to give back to SUNY Old Westbury as an assistant coach sits around the top of them all.”

In 2015-16, Odle averaged a career-high 7.9 points per game to send the Panthers to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2004 after claiming the Skyline Conference Championship.  Odle started in all 53 games he played during his final two seasons to finish his 101-game career with 524 points and 174 assists.  As a senior, he dished out a career-best 83 assists.

“Odle exhibited great leadership qualities as a student-athlete during his time with Old Westbury,” said Tomlin.  “He is a welcome addition to our coaching staff.”

The Medford, New York native graduated in 2017 with a degree in criminology.  He was named to the Athletic Director’s Academic Honor Roll in six of his eight semesters and once to the Skyline Conference Academic Honor Roll.  Ahead of his senior year, Odle was selected to the 2015-16 NABC Honors Court before being named to the Spring 2017 All-Skyline Conference Sportsmanship Team.  Odle represented Old Westbury at the NCAA Career in Sports Forum (June 1-4, 2017) in Indianapolis, where he joined more than 230 student-athletes from Divisions I, II and III at the annual forum that educates student-athletes on potential careers in collegiate athletics.  During his time on campus, Odle served three years as a member of the Old Westbury Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

The 2013 graduate of Longwood High School currently holds the position of special education teacher assistant at Longwood Junior High School.
