Troy University has hired former Butler standout Chase Stigall as video coordinator for the men’s basketball team, head coach Phil Cunningham announced Monday.
"We are really excited about adding Chase to our coaching staff as the new video coordinator," Cunningham said. " I believe that it is important to keep a young, hungry coach on our staff, and Chase certainly adds that dimension. He enjoyed a highly successful career at Butler both on and off the court, and our players will benefit from being around a young man who was ‘in their shoes’ just a few years ago.
"Chase was very eager to get into college coaching, and it was important to me that all of his references strongly believed he was ready to dive in to what can often be a ’24/7′ profession at this level. We hated losing Mike (Moynihan) because he did a terrific job in this role, but we’re looking forward to seeing how Chase can help keep us moving toward our goal of being a team that consistently competes for the Sun Belt title."
Stigall played for Butler from 2008 to 2013 under now-Boston Celtics head coach Brad Stevens. He played on both of Butler’s teams that advanced to the NCAA Championship game, and was also a member of three Horizon League Championship teams.
During the 2010-11 season, Stigall played in 38 games and started 13 as Butler made their second-straight Final Four appearance. He scored nine points against UConn in Butler’s 53-41 loss in the national championship game.
Off the court, Stigall graduated from Butler in May 2013 with a degree in physical education and health with a minor in special education. Stigall most recently was an assistant coach at Brebuef Jesuit Prep School in Indianapolis, Ind.
Originally from New Castle, Ind., Stigall played on a state championship team at Chrysler High in 2005-06. Following his senior season, Stigall was named to the Indiana All-Star team for the annual Indiana-Kentucky summer all-star series. Chrysler High is also the alma mater of former Indiana star and current UCLA basketball head coach Steve Alford.
Stigall replaces Mike Moynihan who left the Trojans to take over as Director of Operations at George Mason University.
