Stitchell promoted to Assistant Basketball Coach at FDU

FDU Head Men’s Basketball Coach Jack Castleberry announced the promotion of Nate Stitchell, Director of Player Development, to Assistant Coach.

“I couldn’t be more pleased to promote Nate to Assistant Coach,” said Castleberry. “He brought great value to our staff this past season in his role as Director of Player Development. He coaches with a passion that is contagious to those around him. He is a people person that is dedicated to helping players grow both on and off the court. I’m looking forward to seeing Nate attack this new role. He has an extremely bright future!”

Stitchell joined the Knights prior to the 2024-25. Stitchell’s first season consisted of facilitating workouts and assisting in practice and scout plans, while playing a key role in player development.

“I am grateful for Coach Castleberry and the rest of the staff for trusting and believing in me,” said Stitchell. “They have pushed me beyond limits and have made me a better coach and better person. The growth in this program never stops and that is credit to the good coaches and great men we have. I am honored to take this role as an assistant men’s basketball coach to help guide our program to become a championship level team.”

Prior to arriving at FDU, Stitchell previously worked as assistant coach at Keene State (Division III). He worked at his alma mater from 2016-18 and 2023-24. While at Keene State, Stitchell helped the Owls make deep runs in the NCAA tournament, including trips to the Sweet 16 and Elite 8. In 2023-24, Keene State rose as high as no. 4 in the country.

Stitchell also spent 2016-2024 as the head coach of Rhode Island Elite. Over the course of a near decade, he guided multiple players to careers at the professional, Division I, Division II and Division III levels.

Stitchell is the owner of two Keene State degrees. He graduated in 2016 with a degree in safety and health and went onto attain his master’s in safety occupational health a year later. As a player at Keene State, Stitchell was a men’s basketball team captain and won two conference championships.

In addition to his AAU and collegiate experiences, Stitchell had a brief stint as a high school boys assistant coach at Shea High School from 2019-2022.
