Interviews are wrapping up at Tennessee Tech in the hunt to replace Steve Payne. The names that I’ve heard involved in this one are:
- Rick Cabrera – Assistant Coach Austin Peay. Just wrapped up his second season at APSU. A Tennessee Tech alum who had spent five seasons on Steve Payne’s staff (2012-17).
- Ronnie Hamilton – Assistant Coach Ole Miss. Had spent four seasons as an assistant at Middle Tennessee State with Kermit Davis before following him to Ole Miss last spring. Has also been an assistant at Houston, Tulane, and The Citadel.
- Murry Bartow – Interim Head Coach UCLA. Took over at UCLA after Steve Alford was fired on 12/31. Served as the head coach at East Tennessee State (2004-15) and UAB (1997-02). Holds a 327-248 career record in 18 seasons as a DI head coach.
- John Pelphrey – Former Associate Head Coach Alabama. Has been on Avery Johnson’s staff since 2016. Former head coach at Arkansas (2007-11) and South Alabama (2002-07). Played at Kentucky. Had two stints as an assistant at Florida (1996-02 – 2011-15).
- Korey McCray – Assistant Coach Mississippi State. Has been an assistant to Ben Howland at both Mississippi State and UCLA. Also worked at LSU and Florida State.
