Vice President and Director of Athletics Donny Mayfield announced the hiring of Randy Casey as the next head men’s basketball coach at Tennessee Wesleyan University.
Casey, who spent the past three seasons as the head basketball coach at McMinn County High School, will look to build on the success of the men’s basketball program at TWU. Casey takes over a Bulldog team that finished last season with 12 wins and 15 losses and ended the year in the AAC quarterfinals with a 76-75 overtime loss to Union College.
“During our search, Coach Casey was a candidate that impressed us with his commitment to building a championship-caliber team while maintaining the character and academic standards that have been established in our athletic department,” stated Mayfield. “We have a great foundation of success for our men’s basketball program, and Coach Casey has shown in his career the ability to elevate the level of play in his student-athletes,” added Mayfield.
Before joining TWU, Casey guided the Cherokees to the 2023 Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) Class AAAA State Boys Basketball Tournament after winning the district regular season and tournament, regional tournament, and substate championships. Prior to his stint at McMinn County, Casey served as the athletic director and basketball coach at Wesley Christian School in Allen, Kentucky, the director of basketball at Athens Prep Academy, assistant men’s basketball coach at the University of Pikeville, and head basketball coach at Belfry High School in Kentucky.
“Coach Casey will be a dynamic leader of our men’s basketball program! He has a proven record of success that will undoubtedly take our program to new heights,” added President Dr. Tyler Forrest.
Casey has amassed 422 total career wins in his coaching career and has achieved many accolades in his career including a two-time TSSAA District and Region AAAA Coach of the Year.
“I’m blessed to have the opportunity to lead the TWU men’s basketball program moving forward. We are going to continue to build on the foundation laid by Coach Ray Stone, and we will not stop until we bring a National Championship back to Athens” expressed Casey. “I can’t wait to get started! We are going to set a standard of where our team will not be outworked, will be tougher, and we will produce a brand of winning basketball that our campus and our community can be very proud of,” added Casey.
Tennessee Wesleyan will open up the 2024-25 Men’s Basketball season in October.
