Shane Rinner has resigned as Head Men’s Basketball Coach at Texas A&M International to accept a position as assistant coach for the Fresno State University women’s basketball team. Associate Head Coach Bryan Weakley has been named the new Head Men’s Basketball Coach effective immediately.
Coach Weakley takes over the position, having served as Coach Rinner’s Associate Head Coach for the past three seasons. Weakley also served as the team’s recruiting coordinator and player development specialist. His additional responsibilities as associate head coach included weight training, overseeing of academics, opponent scouting, and game preparation. He also serves as community service coordinator and director of Dustdevil basketball camps.
Before arriving at TAMIU, Weakley spent five years as an assistant at the University of Alaska Anchorage where he played a key role in building UAA into one of the top NCAA Division II programs in the country. During his five-year tenure, the Seawolves made three straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including a run to the Final Four in 2008. Weakley was recruited by Coach Rinner to play collegiate basketball at Biola University. There he earned All-Conference and NAIA All-American honors for the Eagles and helped lead the team four straight national championship appearances. Biola won 112 games during Weakley’s playing career.
