Texas A&M Corpus Christi Athletic Director Scott Lazenby has resigned, and head basketball coach Willis Wilson has been elevated to Interim AD effective immediately. Wilson will continue in his role as the basketball coach while the university searches for Lazenby’s replacement. An official statement has not been released by the college, but a memo was sent to faculty and staff where Lazenby said:
“After much consideration and conversations with my family, I have decided to step down as Director of Athletics for Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. With all of the positive changes on campus taking place, this is the perfect time for me personally and for the university to make this change. It has been my privilege and honor to work for this university in this capacity.”
Wilson has served as the Islanders head basketball coach since 2011, where he has compiled a 110-115 record. He also spent sixteen seasons (1992-2008) as the head coach at Rice, and also worked as an assistant at Memphis and Stanford.
