A couple of things from the Lone Star State. Looking to forward to spending some time down there next week…
• I mentioned earlier today that Ranger College head coach Jimmy Voight was out. I’ve now heard from multiple sources that the leader there is former Ranger HC Larry Brown. In addition to his stint at Ranger a few years ago, the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Hall of Famer has also been the head coach at Sam Houston State, Howard JC and South Plains JC. He also has experience as a DI assistant at Clemson, Baylor, and South Alabama.
• I have heard Houston associate head coach Alvin Brooks’ name mentioned surrounding the vacancies at both West Texas A&M and Texas A&M-Kingsville. Brooks had spent the past four seasons as the associate head coach at Houston. He was previously the head coach there (1993-1998). Brooks has also worked at Kentucky, UTEP, Texas A&M and Texas Tech. Now that James Dickey is gone, not sure where he stands at UH.
