I have heard that former South Carolina and Western Kentucky head coach Darrin Horn is involved with a spot on Shaka Smart’s staff at Texas. Horn has been out of coaching since he left South Carolina back in 2012. He had a great run in five seasons at WKU, compiling a 111-48 record, but struggled a but during his four seasons at South Carolina, going 60-63. I have also heard that long-time Longhorns assistant Russell Springmann will not be joining Rick Barnes in Tennessee. There is some talk that he may stick with the new staff. He has been at Texas since 1998. Finally, Smart’s top assistant Jeremy Ballard is involved with the job at VCU. If he does not get the gig, word is that he will be joining Smart in Austin.
