The Citadel head men’s basketball coach Duggar Baucom announced the promotions of Brad Mason and Cody Deas. Mason has been named an assistant coach, while Deas is the new Director of Analytics and Basketball Operations.
Mason was promoted to an assistant coach position after serving last year as the Director of Analytics and Basketball Operations. He originally joined the staff for the 2018-19 season as a graduate manager, where he assisted with video operations, player development and day-to-day operations of the program.
“I am extremely excited and fortunate to continue to be a part of the Bulldog community and basketball program,” said Mason. “I want to thank Coach Baucom for believing in me over the last two years and look forward to recruiting, coaching and mentoring these young men at both a high academic and athletic institution. I am eager to begin the season and look forward to the years to come.”
Mason joined the Bulldogs after working with the Dallas Mavericks and Texas Tech Athletics in business roles. He graduated from Texas Tech in 2016 with a bachelor’s degree in sport management and a minor in business administration.
“Brad has been an invaluable part of our program the last few years, first as a graduate manager, then as our Director of Analytics & Basketball Operations,” said Baucom. “In June, Brad was given new, temporary coaching responsibilities due to the departure of an assistant coach. His tireless work ethic, coupled with his competitive passion, and an engaging, high-character personality, have made him a natural fit on our staff. Our players love and respect Coach Mason and all were extremely excited about his promotion.”
Deas moves into his new role after spending the 2019-20 season as a graduate manager. In his new role, Deas will handle all logistics, travel and daily administration of the program.
“It is an honor, and I am very grateful to Coach Baucom for trusting in me to serve as his Director of Analytics and Basketball Operations. “I am excited for the upcoming season and continuing to work with the great group of young men we have in this program.”
Deas came to Charleston from Metrolina Christian Academy where he served as the assistant coach and advance scout. He was responsible for preparing reports on upcoming opponents, organizing game plans and assisting in practice drills and in-game adjustments.
Prior to that, Deas worked as an intern at NetScouts Basketball, serving as in-person scout for local college teams and video scout for European youth national teams.
Deas graduated from Clemson in 2015.
“Cody was starting his second year as our graduate manager,” said Baucom. “His organizational skills, attention to detail and growth mindset are all traits that will make him an excellent Director of Analytics & Basketball Operations. Cody’s eagerness to learn and humility to complete any task make him an extremely important asset to our basketball program.’
