The DirtKing’s end of the week thoughts…….

I took the day off today to await the delivery of our new refrigerator. They said the stainless steel monster would be here by 10 – still no sign of it….ugh. The only positive is that I’ve watched 6 full episodes of John and Kate Plus 8. Very addictive stuff. Kate is out there – I don’t know how John deals with her! He’s definitely doing it for the money, she’s brutal. More power to you big dog! He just had the guys from Orange County Choppers build him a bike….what a life. Maybe they’ll build the DirtKing one next!

Anyway, some items that I’ve picked up during the commercials……

Tons of names are surfacing in conjunction with the vacant Holy Cross job. Earlier in the week, I mentioned Pitt’s Tom Herrion, former BU coach Dennis Wolff, and current HC assistant Andy Sachs. A few other interesting names have popped up – and all are viable candidates.

Quinnipiac assistant Sean Doherty – was an assistant at Holy Cross under Willard and has also been a successful head coach (91-20 in 4 seasons at DIII Salem State).

Vermont Head Coach Mike Lonergan – has been successful as a head coach at UVM and Catholic. His father is a HC alum who played on the 1952 NCAA College World Series championship team.

Bentley Head Coach Jay Lawson. We said that he would be involved at BU earlier in the spring (and he was), and are hearing the same thing at Holy Cross. He has done nothing but win at Bentley (364-171 in 18 seasons). Not a sexy pick, but a great choice if you want to win games.

We’ve also heard some talk of WPI Head Coach Chris Bartley, BC assistant Mo Cassara (former head coach at Clark in Worcester and Worcester Academy), former Providence head coach Tim Welsh, and Cornell Head Coach Steve Donahue.

I still think that it will come down to Tom Herrion or current assistant Andy Sachs. Expect AD Dic Regan to move quickly on this.

It’s official, recently hired VCU assistant Bill Courtney has resigned and will join the staff at Virginia Tech.

Courtney spent last season at Virginia and had been at VCU for just over a month. Interesting……

It appears that Shanka Smart is going to act quickly to replace Courtney. Look for former Georgia assistant Mike Jones to get the nod here.

Sources tell us that Bethany Head Coach Mike Summey is the leading candidate to fill the Director of Operations spot at the University of Miami. He was previously an assistant at North Florida.
