The University of Dallas adds Zapinski as Men’s Basketball Graduate Assistant Coach

The University of Dallas Athletic Department has announced its next Graduate Assistant for the Crusaders men’s basketball program.

The University of Dallas has selected Jonathan Zapinski as the graduate assistant coach for the Dallas men’s basketball program.

Jonathan Zapinski is entering his first season as the graduate assistant coach of the University of Dallas basketball team. Zapinski is back near his hometown of Southlake, TX after completing university last season.

“I am so excited to add Coach Zapinski to our coaching staff! In the three months he’s been with us, he has proven that he is on his way to being an absolute rockstar in the college basketball coaching world. His playing accolades speak for themselves. What has impressed me most is his incredibly keen awareness of detail. He is spot-on in his evaluation of players and his ability to connect with people. Coach Zapinski is hungry and driven, a true go-getter! UD Men’s Basketball is better because of him.” , says Men’s Basketball Head Coach Matt Grahn.

Prior to coaching, Zapinski was a five time letter-winner and three time captain of the basketball team at Elmhurst University in Elmhurst, Illinois. During his time at Elmhurst, he received honors of CCIW Player of the Year, 2 time CSC Academic All-American, 2023-24 Region 8 Player of the Year and NABC Third-Team All-American selection. While at Elmhurst, Zapinski became the all-time shot block leader for the school and played significant minutes on three CCIW tournaments championship teams along with a trip to the National Championship game in 2022.

While at the Final Four in 2022, Zapinski received one of the highest honors an individual student athlete can achieve, where he received the Elite 90 award which is awarded to the student athlete with the highest GPA at their respective sports championship. 

Zapinski earned his Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science and Finance. Now, Zapinski is currently pursuing his Masters of Business Administration at the University of Dallas.
