UPDATE: Third Men’s Basketball staffer now out at Fairfield

Following-up on yesterday’s story (below). Here’s Fairfield’s statement on the resignation of assistant men’s basketball coach James Johns:

Fairfield University announced today that James Johns, Sr., Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach is stepping down from his position. Coach Johns joined Fairfield to support player recruitment and cultivation for which he made substantive contributions in his two years with the program.  Coach Johns also assisted with student-athlete development and mentoring, particularly through his work with front court players. As was evident upon his hire, Coach Johns has also been committed to making connections with and providing support to our student-athletes.

Coach Johns has dedicated his career to coaching and mentoring younger generations of players through the sport of basketball.  He is leaving the University on good terms, we appreciate his service, and we wish him success in his future endeavors.

James Johns is no longer an assistant men’s basketball coach at Fairfield. This move follows the departure of head coach Jay Young on October 16th, and assistant coach Bryan Dougher shortly after that.

Johns was hired by Young in the summer of 2021. Prior to his time at Fairfield, Johns spent four years as a head coach with Team Final AAU, and also coached for WeR1 Under Armour program based out of Delaware.

Interim head coach Chris Casey has since hired Glenn Bracia and Taj Benning as assistant coaches. It is unclear at this time if he will hire a replacement for Johns as well.
