Western Connecticut State University has announced the hiring of Cooper Tinsley as an assistant coach with the men’s basketball program. A native of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Tinsley’s experience at the collegiate and professional levels will be well-utilized at WestConn.
This summer he was in Las Vegas, Nevada taking part in the NBA’s Sports Business Classroom, participated in The Preparation, a pre-draft camp held in Miami, then headed to Providence, Rhode Island to serve as an assistant coach with the USA East Coast – Pan Am Games Training Camp.
“We are thrilled to have Cooper join us here at WestConn,” said Head Coach Guy Rancourt, “Student-athlete success on and off the court is paramount to us, and Coach Tinsley will undoubtedly help us continue operating at the highest level.”
Tinsley has worked with countless NBA players including Bruce Brown (Detroit Pistons), Tremont Waters (Boston Celtics), and Lonnie Walker (San Antonio Spurs), to name a few. Cooper is a graduate of the University of Miami with a degree in Sports Administration and a minor in Business Law. While at “The U” he served as the team’s head manager, going to three NCAA Tournaments, one Sweet 16, and had 10 players advance to the professional level…5 of those advanced to the NBA.
Tinsley will be involved in all day-to-day operations at WestConn including administrative, player development, video, and practice/game preparation.
The Colonials went 17-10 last season and open up 2019-2020 November 11th at Mount St. Mary tipping off at 7:00PM.
