A few rumors and news items to start the week:
It looks like Coastal Carolina Head Coach Cliff Ellis will be looking for two assistants. Jamie Kachmarik is rumored to be leaving to reunite with Buzz Peterson at Appalachian State. Kachmarik worked for Peterson when he was the head coach at Coastal Carolina from 2005-2007. Also, assistant Scott Stapler has resigned to become the Director of the Alabama Basketball Academy. Stapler was a student-assistant to Ellis at Auburn and had been at Coastal Carolina for the past two seasons. We’ll pass along the job postings when they become official.
It looks like ousted DePaul assistant Gary DeCesare will land on his feet. The former head coach at St. Raymond’s in New York City looks like he will return to the high school level and become the next head coach at Chicago’s St. Rita High School. DeCesare spent 17 seasons at St. Raymond’s, winning 2 New York State Championships, and 4 New York City Championships. He also spent 3 seasons as an assistant at Richmond.
Speaking of DePaul, Head Coach Jerry Wainwright has finally rounded out his staff – he has hired former Blue Demon’s David Booth. Booth was recently inducted into DePaul’s Hall of Fame – he scored 1,933 points from 1988-1992 and played in the NBA after that. He joins Tracy Webster and Billy Garrett as the new members of the staff. Wainwright did a good job of bringing in local guys to help him. Hopefully they will help get the program back on track – if not, Wainwright will be in trouble.
