Todd Day is no longer the head men’s basketball coach at Philander Smith University.
Day was the 8th overall pick in the 1992 NBA draft by Milwaukee, and played for Boston and Miami, Phoenix, and Minnesota during his career. The former University of Arkansas standout had been the Panthers head coach since 2016. No reason was given for his departure, but the athletics department released a statement which read in part:
“The university extends heartfelt gratitude to Coach Day, Sr., for his eight years of service to our men’s basketball program. His dedication to our student-athletes has left a lasting impact, and we wish him continued success in his future endeavors.”
Day’s son, Todd “T.J.” Day Jr., will serve as the interim head coach. Day Jr. has been with the Panthers as an assistant since January 2024.
