Towson Men’s Basketball Staff Update

Towson University men’s basketball head coach Pat Skerry has announced the elevation and addition of staff personnel for the 2021-22 campaign.

Pat O’Connell has been promoted to associate head coach, Parfait Bitee has been elevated to assistant coach and Chris Conway joins the team as the new director of student-athlete development.

Skerry returns for his 11th season at the helm of Towson, having led the Tigers to four 18+ win seasons the last six years and a top-three finish in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) in four of the last seven seasons.  Associate head coach Kevin Clark is back in his 11th year at Towson while Jordan Malkin returns as the director of basketball operations for his second year.

O’Connell is entering his ninth year with the program, including stops at USC and Florida State, moving up to associate head coach after five years as an assistant coach.  The Johns Hopkins graduate works with the team’s guards and works as a recruiter, game-planner and player development coach.

Skerry on O’Connell: “Pat has been as outstanding a staff member as we’ve ever had.  In his time at Towson, he has grown as a recruiter and is an unbelievable teacher, handling our defense on the floor.  He is efficient in every area with our team.”

Bitee moves up to assistant coach in his sixth season, having spent the past five as the director of student-athlete development.  Bitee played for Skerry at Rhode Island and had several duties with the team, including organizing all game and practice edits, assisting the coaches in formulating scouting efforts and developing student-athletes.

Skerry on Bitee: “I’m super-excited to elevate Parfait.  He has incredible relationships with our student-athletes.  Last year during COVID, he proved that he was ready to become an assistant coach.  As someone who coached him in college, it has been great watching him develop in his time here.”

Conway, a Dulaney High School graduate, returns to the area as the new director of student-athlete development.  The York College standout comes to Towson after being an assistant coach at Millersville under head coach Casey Stitzel, helping take the Marauders to a pair of PSAC Tournaments.

Skerry on Conway: “We are thrilled to add Chris to our staff after being an assistant at a great DII program in Millersville.  He was a good small college player and played for Towson grad Matt Lochte at Dulaney, he is smart and will be next in line with some outstanding coaches we’ve had here.”
