The Towson search is progressing with the help of former South Carolina head coach Eddie Fogler and his consulting firm. It sounds like money will be the issue with this job. Apparently Towson is looking to offer around $400,000 per year (for 4 years). This would eliminate some of the higher profile assistants that they are targeting. Kansas Sate assistant Delonte Hill (a D.C. native) and Texas assistant Russell Springmann (a Maryland native) are both on Towson’s radar, but TU may have to pony up some more dough to make a serious run at either of them. Vermont head coach Mike Lonergan has also been mentioned – he won a DIII National Championship at Catholic and has been an assistant at Maryland. The word is that he would only consider a 5-year deal, but is not really sold on leaving Vermont just yet (unless a high major comes calling). If they can’t land one of these guys, look for them to turn to Old Dominion assistant Jim Corrigan, Xavier assistant Pat Kelsey, VMI head coach Duggar Baucom, former Charlotte head coach Bobby Lutz, or Citadel head coach Chuck Driesell.
