Trinity College Head Men’s Basketball Coach James Cosgrove (10th
Season) has announced his assistant coaches for the 2019-20 season.
John Zall, who has served as an assistant since 2016, has been promoted
to associate head coach, and Mark Eells has been hired as an assistant
coach. Eells, a 2015 graduate of the University of Connecticut, is
coming off a one-year coaching stint at the University of New Haven.
Zall enters his fourth year with the Bantams. He has also served as a
member of the player development staff for the Dallas Mavericks in the
NBA, as an assistant coach at Division II Franklin Pierce, and as a
club, AAU, and high school coach. Since Zall’s arrival at Trinity, the
Bantams have posted a 48-28 record and qualified for the New England
Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) each season.
Eells helped the Chargers to a second-place finish in the Northeast-10 Conference, a 21-10 overall record and its first Division II NCAA appearance since 2013 last winter. During his one year at New Haven, he helped with on-court instruction, working specifically with the centers and forwards during breakdown sessions. Prior to New Haven, Eells spent the 2018 summer working with the Connecticut Basketball Club as an AAU coach. He was responsible for planning and executing weekly practices, working with position-specific players during development sessions, and worked as an assistant coach during the NE-6 Skills Combine.
At the University of Connecticut, Eells worked with both the men’s and women’s programs as a practice player during training sessions. From 2013-2014, he participated with the practice squad on a daily basis; from 2014-2015, he was on an all-men’s practice team, working with the National Championship women’s basketball program. A Connecticut native, Eells played through high school, serving as team captain for RHAM High School in 2010. He graduated from UConn in 2015 with his Bachelor of Science degree in economics.
