Truman men’s basketball assistant coaches Todd Lorensen (Iowa Wesleyan) and Matt Fitzpatrick (Alabama-Birmingham) have each accepted new positions and will be leaving the Truman program, head coach Matt Woodley announced Tuesday.
Lorensen was named the head men’s basketball coach at Iowa Wesleyan College, an NCAA Division III exploratory program located in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. He will take over a program that went 14-13 last season, as the Tigers transition from NAIA to NCAA-III.
“I am so excited for Todd,” Woodley said. “He’ll be great there, and there is no doubt he is ready to take on this endeavor full speed. It’s a perfect fit for him, and we wish him nothing but the best as he’ll be missed here at Truman.”
Fitzpatrick, meanwhile, accepted a job as an assistant coach on Randy Norton’s women’s basketball staff at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. Norton – who is the father of current Bulldog basketball players Tom and Allie – recently accepted the UAB position after serving as an assistant coach at the University of Missouri.
“I am thrilled for Matt, as this was an opportunity for him to reunite with his high school coach and someone for whom he has a great deal of respect,” Woodley said. “I wish him the best of luck.”
A search for replacements is already underway.
