Tufts University Staff Update

First-year Tufts University men’s basketball head coach Brandon Linton has announced the hiring of assistant coaches Colin Richey and Joey Kizel, who will join the Jumbo staff for the 2021-22 season.

Richey has coached for the last two years (2019-21) at Assumption College, where he helped the Greyounds earn the program’s best record in five years during the 2019-20 season. The team’s 14-12 finish that season came after they had won just 15 games combined in the previous two years. Richey is currently pursuing a Master’s of Business Administration degree at Assumption. For the 2018-19 season, Richey was an assistant at Nichols College when the Bison advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament, won the Commonwealth Coast Conference championship and finished with a 28-3 record.

A 2018 graduate of Saint Michael’s College, Richey was a four-year varsity player who rececived the program’s Jerry Lanteri Class of ’76 Basketball Recognition Award for Exemplary Contributions to the Team. Originally from Upton, Mass., Richey attended Choate Rosemary Hall where he captained the basketball team.

Kizel is a 2014 graduate of Middlebury College where he captained the men’s basketball team for the 2013-14 season. He was a D3hoops.com Preseason All-American in 2013 after receciving D3hoops Honorable Mention All-American accolades for 2012-13. In addition to receiving All-Conference first team honors three times, Kizel was a three-time NESCAC All-Academic Team member (2012-2014). The Panther teams he played on reached the Division III Final Four (2011), Sweet Sixteen (2012) and Elite Eight (2013). He scored 1,493 points in his career and is currently the program’s all-time leader for three-point percentage (.438), #2 in career free throw percentage (.818) and #4 all-time with 487 assists.

From 2017-19 Kizel was at the University of Texas earning a Master’s in Sport Management while also working with the Longhorns as a graduate assistant coach. Since 2019 he has been the video coordinator for the Northern Kentucky University men’s basketball team. Originally from Short Hills, New Jersey and Millburn HS, Kizel played professionally in Israel after graduating from Middlebury.
