CSU Bakersfield Athletic Director Jeff Konya has announced men’s basketball coach Rod Barnes has signed a two-year contract extension to remain at the helm of the Roadrunners. With the two additional years Barnes’ contract now runs through the 2017-18 season.
There are not any financial changes in the contract extension meaning Barnes’ salary will be the same as originally agreed upon when he came to Bakersfield in the Spring of 2011.
Barnes was 16-14 during his first regular season with the Roadrunners and led them into their first postseason tournament at the Division I level, the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament where they fell in the first round to eventual runner-up Utah State. Barnes was also named Independent Coach of the year by CollegeSportsMadness.com and was a finalist for Mid-Major Coach of the Year and Minority Coach of the Year for the 2011-12 season.
Barnes, the 2001 Naismith Coach of the Year, was hired in March of 2011 as just the second head coach at the Division I level for the Roadrunners. He recorded his 200th career win on February 22, 2012 when CSUB defeated New Jersey Tech 72-70 in overtime.
