UCSB’s Pasternack Signs Extension Through 2026

Joe Pasternack, the 2021 Big West Conference Coach Of The Year, has signed an extension with UCSB through the 2026 season.

Pasternack has led the Gauchos to four consecutive 20-win seasons, culminating by winning the 2021 Big West Regular Season title, claiming the 2021 Big West Tournament Championship and earning a bid to March Madness with a program best #12 seed.

Since being named UCSB head coach in April, 2017, Pasternack has worked relentlessly to enhance the Gauchos presence and success on and off the court. Some of the accomplishments include:

  • Under Coach Pasternack, Team GPA has been at an average of 3.0 each quarter, including Amadou Sow winning the 2021 Big West Scholar Athlete of the Year Award.
  • 2021 Big West Regular Season Champions. UC Santa Barbara’s first outright title since 2003.
  • From 2017-21 the Gauchos set the school record for most wins (88) in a 4 year span, and tied the single season school record for wins (23) in 2017-18.
  • Under Coach Pasternack the Gauchos won more than 20 games in four consecutive seasons for the first time in school history.
  • In the last four seasons, the Gauchos have set school records for Most Points and Most 3 Pointers Made in a 4 year span.
  • Under Coach Pasternack, the Gauchos have a 47-8 record at home. The best home record in a 4 year span in school history. From 2020-21 the Gauchos won a school record 16 straight games at home.
  • Under Coach Pasternack, 10 different players have been awarded All-Conference honors.
  • Since Coach Pasternack was hired, over $8.7 Million has been raised for projects
    including:
    A. Remodeled Men’s Basketball Locker Room
    B. Remodeled Weight Room for all of UCSB Athletics
    C. Remodeled film room Men’s & Women’s Basketball and Women’s Volleyball
    D. Chair back seating for entire ThunderDome
    E. Brand New Practice Court
