Former Coastal Carolina standout Logan Johnson has been hired by UNC Asheville head men’s basketball coach Nick McDevitt as the program’s new assistant coach.
Johnson joins the Bulldog program from Ouachita Baptist University where he served as an assistant to head coach Dennis Nutt for the past three years. OBU enjoyed two winning seasons during Johnson’s tenure.
“I am excited that we have added Logan Johnson to our basketball staff,” stated McDevitt. “I have known Logan and his family for almost a decade and have followed his basketball career closely. He has been a part of successful programs both as a player and coach, and I know he will bring a winning attitude to our program.
“Logan has worked hard in the profession to develop a strong reputation, and I am confident he will be a great addition to the UNC Asheville family,” added McDevitt.
Johnson is a graduate of Big South rival Coastal Carolina, where he was a four year starter for the Chanticleers. During his time at CCU, Johnson was a starter on the 2009-2010 Big South Conference championship team, he was named to the 2010 Big South Conference All-Tournament Team and was twice named to the Big South Academic All-Conference Team (2009-2010). Johnson was also named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court in 2010 and named to the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District First Team in 2010. Logan played for both Buzz Peterson and Cliff Ellis at Coastal Carolina.
He enjoyed a great prep career at South Doyle HS in Knoxville as he led the Cherokees to 63 wins, including a school-record 17 victories in each of his final two seasons. Johnson was named PrepXtra Player of the Year his senior season, leading the team with 19.8 points per game and five double-doubles on the year. He was also selected to play in the Tennessee Athletic Coaches Association East-West All-Star Basketball Game. Logan was a member of the National Honor Society his junior and senior years, graduating in 2005 with a 3.9 grade point average.
