The University of Michigan-Dearborn has announced Taylor Langley as the new head coach of the men’s basketball team. Langley served as assistant coach at Davenport University for the past four seasons. During that time, Davenport was ranked in the top 25 each season and also qualified for the NAIA National Tournament for four consecutive seasons. Taylor helped the men’s basketball program become one of the elite programs in NAIA basketball with a combined record of 117-25 including two conference championships, three Elite 8 appearances, and an NAIA Fab Four appearance in 2011-12.
Coach Langley served as the offensive coordinator on the varsity team for all four seasons. As offensive coordinator Coach Langley designed, implemented, and called all offensive schemes for the basketball team. During those four seasons, Davenport finished in the top 25 in total scoring nationally. The offense also finished in the top 10 in scoring margin nationally for his last 3 seasons. In addition, the Panthers finished in the top 20 in assist to turnover ratio and total assists all four seasons. In the 2011-2012 season, Davenport finished the season as the top 3 point shooting team in the country at nearly 42 percent as a team. The same season the Panthers finished top 5 in scoring margin, total assists, 3 pointers made, assist to turnover ratio, and turnover margin.
In his time as a coach at Davenport, Taylor was instrumental in the skill development of both the post and perimeter players. Coach Langley also developed the strength and conditioning program for the men’s basketball team. In addition, Taylor organized over 1600 hours of community service for the basketball team over four years. Coach Langley was also responsible for organizing team travel arrangements, meals, and budgeting. Taylor also designed and organized multiple team building activities and fundraisers for the basketball program.
Also during his time at Davenport, Coach Langley has become a top NAIA recruiter in the state of Michigan. Taylor’s recruiting abilities brought many talented players to Davenport. In Coach Langley’s time at Davenport the individual player accomplishments include one WHAC Player of the Year, six All-WHAC First Team selections, ten All-WHAC Defensive honorees, and nine NAIA All-Americans
Before working as a collegiate assistant at Davenport from nearby, Coach Langley spent six years coaching at the high school level with stops at Almont High School, Webberville High School, and Eaton Rapids High School where he played a vital role in the development of the program as well as Michigan State signee Alex Gauna. Before coaching, Taylor played basketball for two years at Macomb Community College where he was a team captain.
Coach Langley earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Davenport University in 2013, as well as an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Michigan State University in 2008.
