Head coach Craig Neal and the University of New Mexico men’s basketball program have announced the hiring of Jeremy Anderson as the team’s strength and conditioning coach. Anderson joins the Lobos after spending the previous three seasons with the strength and conditioning department at the University of Virginia.
“We are really looking forward to having Jeremy join our program,” said head coach Craig Neal. “He comes to us after spending three years at Virginia under Mike Curtis who spent six years as the strength and conditioning coach with the Memphis Grizzles and has a great reputation in the NBA and college basketball. Tony Bennett, who is a coach I really respect, gave him a great recommendation, and he said a big part of Virginia’s success this past season was due to the work of their strength and conditioning staff.”
In addition to his assisting with the 30-win men’s basketball program, Anderson was also the strength and conditioning coach for UVA’s women’s basketball program. He joined the Cavaliers for the 2011-12 season as a graduate assistant before being promoted to assistant strength and conditioning coach two seasons ago. He moved to Charlottesville after a three-month stint as a strength and conditioning intern at his alma mater, Liberty University.
“I am really excited about the opportunity to come to New Mexico and a top 25 program,” said Anderson. “I can’t wait to start helping these student-athletes and this program achieve its goals of winning championships. I have so much appreciation for my experience at Virginia, under Mike Curtis, who is a well-known strength coach. Working with him and his NBA experience was huge for my growth as a coach, and I’m looking forward to continuing my career under Coach Neal and his staff.”
Anderson played guard for the Liberty Flames from 2008 to 2010. Team captain his last two seasons at Liberty, he graduated summa cum laude with a 4.0 cumulative grade point average. He was also a member of the 2008-09 Big South Conference All-Freshmen Team.
A native of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Anderson earned his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Exercise Science from Liberty University in 2011. He graduated from Virginia with a Master’s degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Physiology in 2013.
