Utah head men’s basketball coach Craig Smith added Carter Stevens to the Runnin’ Utes staff as the director of scouting/video last week.
“We’re thrilled to announce that Carter will be joining our Runnin’ Utes family,” Smith said. “Throughout the interview process, Carter demonstrated key skills that are a separator for him as he has proven the ability to break down video for our staff and players to help take our program to the next level. I am really excited to have him join our staff.”
Stevens comes to Salt Lake City after spending the past few months with Ángeles CD México in Ciudad México, México as an assistant coach. A playoff contender in the CIBACOPA league, he helped provide advance scouting and statistical analysis of all opponents while providing real-time tactical recommendations based on available data for Ángeles CD México.
“I want to thank Coach Smith and the University of Utah for this great opportunity,” said Stevens. “I’m excited to join this experienced staff and contribute to the culture that Coach Smith has created.”
Before his time in México, Stevens spent two seasons (2022-24) at Northern Iowa as a graduate assistant. He worked hand-in-hand with the coaching staff preparing advanced scouting reports and analysis during his time with the Panthers. He also helped organize and led player development workouts with several all-conference and NBA players.
The Iowa native started his collegiate career playing at Des Moines Area Community College (2018-19) before transferring to Dubuque (2019-21). With the Spartans, he averaged 6.4 points and 12.9 minutes while shooting .406 from the field. He also helped Dubuque capture the American Rivers Conference Championship his sophomore year with an undefeated regular-season during the shortened COVID-19 year going 14-0 and 7-0 in league play.
