Utah head men’s basketball coach Alex Jensen has named Victoria Sun as the newest director of basketball operations for the Runnin’ Utes.
“I’m thrilled to have someone of Victoria’s caliber join our staff,” Jensen remarked. “She’s been around basketball her whole life and has done everything at an award-winning level. We’re fortunate to have Vic join our Runnin’ Utes staff.”
Sun comes to Salt Lake City after spending the past six seasons at IMG Academy (2019-25) as the business manager for the basketball arm at the academy in Bradenton, Fla.
“This is a very exciting time for the Utah basketball program,” Sun said. “I’m honored to join the staff and be a part of this new chapter of the program’s history. I have great respect for Coach Jensen and look forward to working with the staff and student-athletes.”
Sun made the move to the sports operation world in 2011 at Eastern Michigan. She would spend three seasons (2011-14) with the Eagles before taking the special assistant to the head coach role at Florida State for a season (2014-15) and then moved on to CSUN (2015-16).
Sun then spent two seasons (2016-18) at George Washington as the director of operations before joining IMG Academy in 2019.
She was also charged by the NCAA to lead the inaugural NCAA College Basketball Academy in 2019.
An award-winning sports writer by trade out of college (1997-2011) and longstanding member of the US Basketball Writers Association, Sun’s work has appeared in publications such as the Associated Press, USA Today, Los Angeles Times, Riverside Press-Enterprise, Cincinnati Post and Las Vegas Sun. She was also a contributor to Lindy’s preseason college basketball magazine and the Basketball Times.
Sun is a 1997 graduate of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. She was also member of the women’s tennis team from 1993-95 with the Orange while also serving as a manager for the men’s basketball team under legendary head coach Jim Boeheim.
