Johnson University has announced the addition of Tony Jones as the new Men’s Basketball Associate Head Coach.
Coach Jones previously coached at both Southwestern High School (1986-1991) and Alcoa High School (2011-2013), as well as the collegiate level with Buffalo (1993-1996), Toledo (1996-2001), Milwaukee (2001-2005) Tennessee (2005-2011), Auburn (2014-2015), and Oakland (2017-2022).
Coach Jones also has professional-level experience, as he was an assistant and interim head coach for the Windsor Express of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL). (2015-2016).
When asked about his new role at Johnson, Coach Jones shared, “I am excited to join the Johnson University Family. Having the opportunity to work with Coach Sharp was a drawing point for me. Additionally, being back in Knoxville, which I consider home, is a blessing. I’m looking forward to working with our student-athletes to help them grow and develop on and off the court.”
“I am thrilled to have Coach Jones joining our staff,” said Royals Men’s Basketball Head Coach Logan Sharp. “His success and experience at the Division 1 level will be very beneficial. Having one of my close friends and mentors on staff is something I’m very excited about. I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish together as a staff.”
Tony Jones will bring valuable experience to the program, as his experience at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels will help the team in many ways.
