There are five finalists for the vacancy at Virginia Union. The Final Five are:
• Lester Butler, Jr. – Head women’s coach University of the District of Columbia. A 1998 graduate of Virginia Union. Has 152 wins in 10 seasons at UDC.
• Vance Harmon – Head coach Henrico (Va.) HS. A 1994 Virginia Union grad. Has a 212-65 record at Henrico – has been the head coach there since 2004. Has also been the head coach at J.R. Tucker HS (Va.)
• Richard Morgan – Head coach Bluefield College. A Virginia native who played at UVa. Has been at Bluefield since 2009. Has been an assistant at Appalachian State, Hampton, and East Carolina.
• Anthony Peeler – Assistant coach Virginia Union. Has spent the last four seasons as an assistant at VUU. Played at Missouri – drafted 15th overall by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1992 NBA Draft.
Peeler also played for the Vancouver Grizzlies, Minnesota Timberwolves, Sacramento Kings and the Washington Wizards averaging 9.7 points per game throughout his NBA career.
• Tony Sheals – Former head coach Saint Augustine’s University. Spent one season at St. Aug. Has been the head coach at Bethune-Cookman and Delaware State. He has also worked as an assistant at Florida State, Florida A&M, and Towson.
