UC Davis men’s basketball has promoted Kyle Vogt from assistant coach to associate head coach, head coach Jim Les announced Wednesday. Vogt, who joined the staff in June 2012, enters his 15th season with the program in 2026-27 and has helped guide UC Davis to more than 200 wins and three Big West championships.
“Kyle has been one of the backbones of our program for 14 years, and this promotion is long overdue recognition of everything he brings to UC Davis basketball. His ability to build elite defenses, develop perimeter players and identify talent has been a driving force behind our success, the wins, the Big West championships and that historic NCAA Tournament appearance. Beyond the X’s and O’s, Kyle is a difference-maker in the lives of our players every single day. I couldn’t be more proud to call him associate head coach as we embark on this exciting new chapter in the Mountain West Conference,” Les said.
Vogt assists across the program with a focus on defensive schemes, perimeter player development, recruiting, opponent scouting and scheduling. UC Davis defenses have ranked among the nation’s leaders in forcing turnovers during his tenure. Over his 14 completed seasons, the Aggies have won more than 200 games, including four 20-win seasons and three Big West regular-season or tournament championships. With Vogt on staff, UC Davis recorded the program’s first NCAA Division I Tournament victory in 2017, a First Four win over North Carolina Central.
Earlier in the year, Vogt was named to Silver Waves Media’s 2026 list recognizing the top 100 most impactful mid-major assistant coaches and general managers. He also previously earned a spot on the company’s 2024 mid-major assistant rising stars list.
A Milwaukee native, Vogt graduated from Lakeland College (Wis.) in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. As a player at Lakeland, he was a three-time all-conference selection who scored 1,123 career points and ranks No. 2 in school history with 183 career 3-point field goals. He placed among NCAA Division III national leaders in 3-point percentage as both a junior and a senior. Vogt was also named to the Lakeland University Athletics Hall of Fame in September 2026.
Vogt brought an extensive coaching career to UC Davis, with stops at UW-Platteville (2003-04), Bradley (2004-11) and Western Illinois (2011-12). During that span he was part of five postseason teams, including Bradley’s run to the 2006 NCAA Sweet 16. He has worked alongside Les since their time together at Bradley.
UC Davis will officially join the Mountain West Conference on July 1, 2026.
