LeTourneau University has named James Wallace as its new head men’s cross country and assistant men’s basketball coach, announced athletic director Terri Deike.
“We are excited to add James to the YellowJacket Athletic staff and consider him a great addition to our program. With his passion for coaching young men in cross country and basketball and his willingness to move them forward academically, athletically and spiritually, he will be a great fit for LETU” said Deike.
Wallace spent the last three years at Southwest Minnesota State University, where he spent two seasons as a graduate assistant and a season as a student assistant with the Mustangs men’s basketball program. While at Southwest Minnesota State, under head coach Brad Bigler, they compiled a record of 66-51 as part of the most successful period in school history.
Wallace replaces Michael Lewis, who was recently named the head coach at his alma mater, Wichita West High School.
The Bellevue, Nebraska native arrived at SMSU in 2010 and spent a season on the Mustangs roster before an injury ended his career. He successfully transitioned into a role as a student assistant, then graduate assistant for the last two seasons. He played two seasons at Iowa Western Community College, prior to attending SMSU.
Wallace is a 2013 graduate of SMSU with a degree in marketing and is currently working on his MBA at SMSU.
