Minnesota State University Moorhead men’s basketball head coach Chad Walthall announced Thursday that he will retire from coaching after 12 seasons in Moorhead.
Walthall’s career highlights include:
· Average of 21 wins per year.
· National Coach of the Year & Central Region Coach of the Year (2015).
· Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Coach of the Year (2015).
· Six NCAA Tournament appearances (2012, 2015 ,2016, 2017, 2021 & 2022).
· Led teams to five NSIC Tournament Championship games (2012, 2015, 2016, 2021 & 2022)
· Won school’s first ever NSIC Tournament Championship (2022).
“Coach Walthall put Dragons Basketball on the map in NCAA Division II. We’re so thankful for his dedication to transforming our men’s basketball program,” said Chad Markuson, MSUM Interim Athletics Director. “We wish him and his family well in their next chapter.”
MSUM will begin a national search for its next men’s basketball head coach.
