Sam Waniewski has been named as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Hinds Community College.
Waniewski has recently served as an assistant at Dyersburg State (Tenn.) Community College and Seward County (Kan.) Community College. Known as a relentless recruiter, he has also spent time as an assistant coach at University of Louisiana-Monroe, Tallahassee (Fla.) Community College, Midland (Texas) College and Vincennes (Ind.) “I am extremely excited about the opportunity to come to Hinds CC. I really look forward to being able to serve the campus, community, and basketball program,” Waniewski said.
In 2013, he spent one season as video coordinator at Colorado State University. During his time in Fort Collins, Colo., the Rams earned an NCAA Tournament berth and advanced past Missouri before falling to eventual national champion Louisville. He began working in basketball at the University of Southern Mississippi in 2011-12, as a graduate assistant.
“I am very excited to add Sam to our staff. He is a very good coach who is a hard worker and has excellent relationships with everyone,” said head coach Jonathan Nevol. “Sam brings an abundance of experience from all divisions of college basketball. With his knowledge of the game, ability to relate to and recruit players and success as a coach at the highest level, he will be a hug addition to the Hinds program,” Nevol said.
A native of Woodland, Calif., Waniewski earned his bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in coaching and administration from Chico State University in 2009. While at Chico State, he was a member of the Wildcats basketball program.
