Gannon University men’s basketball coach Easton Bazzoli today announced the addition of Isiah Warfield as the second assistant coach on his coaching staff. Warfield was a member of the 2024-25 Golden Knight squad that finished with a 27-7 record and reached the championship game of the Atlantic Regional in Bazzoli’s first season at the helm.

“I could not be more excited to bring on Isiah in his new role as an assistant coach for the program,” related Bazzoli. “Isiah was a really smart and competitive player that Gannon fans did not always get to see due to his injuries while here. I am really excited for everyone to be able to see his impact as a coach on the players here. Isiah will quickly turn into one of the best young coaches in America at any level and I am thankful his career is starting here at Gannon.”

When healthy Warfield proved to be a major contributor. Unfortunately, his season was interrupted by an injury twice and he ended up appearing in just five games, with four starts. A 6-foot-5 guard, Warfield averaged 4.0 ppg. and 3.6 rpg. with 15 assists and nine steals. He displayed his true talents in a win over East Stroudsburg on Nov. 23, finishing with 13 points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Warfield joined Gannon last year after previous stints at Liberty and Howard. In three seasons at Liberty Warfield played in 87 games, helping the Flames win 72 games while playing in one NCAA Tournament and one NIT Tournament. He scored 178 points and pulling down 141 rebounds at Liberty. In his final season in 2022-23 he played in 35 games and averaged 18 minutes per game while scoring 2.9 ppg. and 2.3 rpg. Liberty finished with a 27-9 record, losing in the finals of the A-SUN Tournament, then went on to play in the NIT, defeating Villanova before losing to Wisconsin in the second round. As a freshman in 2020-21 Liberty finished at 23-6, winning the A-SUN Tournament championship to earn the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

In 2022-24 Warfield played at Howard. He was a key cog for a Howard team that won the MEAC championship to qualify for March Madness. The Bison played in an NCAA First Four game, suffering a 71-68 loss to Wagner to end the year at 18-17. Howard upset top-seed Norfolk State in the semifinals by an 80-74 score, then earned the trip to the NCAA Tournament with a 70-67 win over Delaware State in the finals.

Warfield played in 21 games with 16 starts for the Bison, averaging almost 26 minutes per game. He averaged 7.3 ppg., 3.1 rpg. and 3.0 assists per game, adding 16 steals and a pair of blocks.

A native of Monaca, Pa., Warfield now follows his father Mike Warfield into the coaching profession. Mike Warfield was a renowned high school football coach at Aliquippa (Pa.) High School.

Warfield earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Liberty. He graduated with his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Gannon in May.

“I’m incredibly blessed and excited to join the coaching staff at Gannon University, a place that means so much to me after my time here as a player,” Warfield commented. “It’s an honor to return in a new role and give back to the program that helped me in so many ways. I’m ready to get to work and help our guys grow on and off the court.”
