Washington College adds assistant

Washington College head men’s basketball coach Rob Nugent has announced the hiring of Dorian Long as the team’s new assistant coach. Long most recently served as assistant men’s basketball coach at Neumann University since 2008.

While coaching at Neumann, Long assisted in all aspects of the program – including recruiting, scouting, player development, and academic progress – and organized and directed all team and individual summer camp operations. He has also served as Co-President and head coach of The Whiz Basketball Club, a youth club team, since 2009.

Long got his coaching start at an early age as a student assistant freshman team coach at Monsignor Bonner High School in Drexel Hill, PA. He later spent two years as assistant boys basketball coach at the school. During the summer and fall of 2010, Long completed an internship at Saint Joseph’s University, working closely with both the men’s and women’s basketball teams.

Long spent two years as a residence life assistant at Neumann and was very active in campus life while a student there. He served as Student Union Vice President and Head Orientation Leader and served on both the Student Activities Board and the Residence Life Advisory Board.

Long, who earned a B.S. in Sport Management from Neumann in December 2010, succeeds Robert Hughes as the team’s assistant coach. Hughes accepted the position of head men’s basketball coach at Rosemont College earlier this month.
