Wayne State College head men’s basketball coach Brian Dolan has announced that Brett Putz has been named assistant coach for the Wildcats.
Putz is no stranger to men’s basketball in the Northern Sun Conference as the Forest City, Iowa native comes to Wayne State after serving the 2012-13 season as an assistant coach at St. Cloud State following a stellar playing career with the Huskies from 2008-12. He also brings three years of coaching experience to the Wildcats having worked with the Iowa Mavericks and Iowa Barnstormers AAU programs from 2010-12.
As a player, Putz was a part of three NCAA Tournament and two NSIC Conference Tournament championships teams at St. Cloud State, including a trip to the NCAA Division II Final Four in 2010. He finished his career as the school’s all-time leader in games played (124), ranked second in three-pointers made (245), 10th in career steals (142) and 18th in scoring with 1,315 career points.
“I’m very excited about the opportunity to coach at Wayne State College” stated Putz. “I am looking forward to working with coach Dolan and continuing to help the basketball program move forward, specifically getting to know and working with our players.”
Wayne State College is an NCAA Division II school located in Wayne, Nebraska and competes in the 16-team Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Wildcats return two starters and six letter winners from last season’s 17-12 team, marking the most wins for a Wayne State men’s basketball team since the 1999-2000 season when then head coach Greg McDermott led the ‘Cats to the Sweet 16 and the Central Regional final.
