Wednesday ramblings from the DirtKing

Some quick items I thought I’d share as I finish my Frosted Flakes……

Interesting article from the LA Times regarding USC’s search. It says Lakers assistant Jim Cleamons has already spoken with AD Mike Garrett about the vacant head coaching spot. It also mentions former NBA head coaches PJ Carlesimo and Reggie Theus as serious candidates. I’ve also heard Lakers assistant Brian Shaw’s name mentioned here. If you’re going to hire an NBA guy, why not Jeff Van Gundy? In my opinion though, Garrett should look at some current college coaches who know the rules instead of messing with the NBA. I understand that Jamie Dixon is out, but what about UAB’s Mike Davis?

Another article that I enjoyed reading this morning. USF coach Stan Heath talks about his staff changes and touches on while loyal USF Director of Ops Tony Tonelli was not bumped up. This is definitely a tough business at times. You think you pay your dues and sometimes it doesn’t matter.

Not much to report in the other DI search going on right now. I still think Holy Cross is a perfect fit for Pitt assistant Tom Herrion. I’m interested to see who AD Dic Regan will bring in for interviews in the next few weeks. I’ll keep you updated as soon as I hear anything.

Former Dukie Robert Brickey is going to join the staff at NC Central. He had a rough ride as the head coach at Shaw University (15-68 in 3 seasons), but hopefully this will be a step in the right direction for him. He was most recently on the women’s staff at Duke

Over the past few weeks, I’ve heard from a number of our readers who have gotten involved with jobs that they heard about through our site. A few of them had actually gotten pretty far along in the interview process. I wanted to see if anyone out there has gotten a job this year that they first heard about here.
