Weekend Dirt – 8/13/11

Some weekend dirt….

Miami-Dade College has promoted assistant coach Stephen Cowherd to the position of head coach. This was a long search process, but apparently the decision to hire Cowherd came a few weeks ago. He had spent one season as an assistant at MDC, and was a graduate assistant at Florida State before that. Cowherd has also spent time at South Alabama and Mississippi State.

Chris Klassen has accepted an assistant position at Pima CC (AZ). He was the head coach at Palo Verde HS for the past two seasons going 41-20.

Anderson University assistant Chip Mehaffey has resigned. He had worked at Anderson for one season. Before that, he spent 14 seasons as the head coach at Winchester (IN) HS and has a 326-154 record in 21 seasons as a HS coach.

New Alabama A&M head coach Willie Hayes has yet to sign a contract. According to sources, he has been working at the University "in good faith" since late May. Apparently both sides are confident that a contract will be agreed upon shortly. I just thought that this was a pretty interesting situation.
