Lane College head men’s basketball coach Andre Turner has announced the hiring of Barry Wellington as assistant coach for the Dragons program.
Wellington has spent the past two seasons at Christian Brothers University. Before his stint at CBU, Wellington served as assistant coach at the University of the Cumberlands for two seasons where he was also the head coach for the Patriots’ JV program.
Wellington began his coaching career at Lamar State College Port-Arthur, where he coached a pair of NJCAA All-Americans, a Region 14 Player of the Year award winner, four First Team All-Region selections, three Second-Team All-Region players, four First Team All-Conference players, and three Second-Team All-Conference recipients.
Wellington played at Mountain State University for Bob Bolen where he became an All-American. Injuries derailed a promising career as the Memphis native turned to coaching and finishing his degree. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Applied Arts & Science from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.
Wellington prepped at Treadwell High School, where he earned Gatorade Player of the Year honors, and was a two-time Best of the Preps selection.
