Wendell Moore has joined Prairie View A&M University men’s basketball as an assistant coach.
Moore brings extensive coaching experience on the high school, junior college, and Division I level.
Moore previously spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Butler County Community College in El Dorado, Kan., helping Butler to a pair of final four appearances in the conference tournament.
Moore has previously served as an assistant coach at three NCAA Division I programs – Tulsa, UMKC and Florida Atlantic.
Moore spent two years at Tulsa under head coach Danny Manning where they won the 2013 Conference USA Championship. Before that, he spent four years at Missouri-Kansas City from 2008 to 2012. He also spent two years as an assistant to Rex Walters at Florida Atlantic from 2006 to 2008.
“Wendell brings a wealth of experience as both a coach and recruiter,” said PVAMU head men’s basketball coach Byron Smith. “He is a former standout player at Georgia Southern University, and has had assistant coaching stops at the Division 1 level. He will be counted on to recruit extensively in the Midwest as well as here in Texas. He will work on the court with our perimeter players, and is a tremendous asset to what I already feel is a really good staff.”
Before moving to Florida, Moore served as an assistant coach at Redlands Community College in El Reno, Okla., from 2004-06, helping the Cougars to the finish second in regionals in 2005.
Prior to joining the collegiate ranks, Moore spent five seasons as the head coach at Wyandotte High School. In 2004, he guided the Bulldogs to a 14-7 overall record and all five of his starters went on to receive college basketball scholarships.
Moore played collegiate basketball for two seasons at Georgia Southern, where he helped lead the 1991-92 squad to the Trans American Athletic Conference (TAAC) Championship and the NCAA Tournament with a school record 25 wins. During the historic season, he helped the Eagles set school records for single-season steals (92) and three-point field goal percentage (.470). For his play, Moore earned TAAC all-conference honors, and he was named Chevrolet’s Most Valuable Player at the NCAA Tournament.
Moore began his college playing career at Hutchinson (Kan.) Community College, where he started on the nation’s pre-season No. 1 team as a sophomore in 1989-90.
