The University of West Alabama Department of Athletics announces the hiring Tyler Roden as the assistant men’s basketball coach. Roden joins Mike Newell’s staff after serving one year as a graduate assistant on the Tiger women’s basketball team. Prior to UWA, Roden spent a year at Buckhorn High School in Huntsville, Ala., as the assistant coach for the girls’ basketball and baseball teams.
Roden is a 2009 graduate of UWA, where he earned his B.S. in Mathematics and minored in History. During his time as a student in Livingston, Roden spent a season as a member of the Tiger baseball program and two years on the men’s basketball team. Before transferring to UWA, he spent a season on the United States Naval Academy baseball team and a year at Naval Academy Prep School, where he led the team in scoring.
