White Joins Ferrum Men’s Basketball Staff

Director of Athletics John Sutyak has announced the hiring of Anthony White Jr. as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Ferrum College. White will work under Head Coach Tyler Sanborn, who recently made the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament for the first time in school history.

Prior to Ferrum, White served as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Earlham College, a Division III program in Richmond, Indiana. His responsibilities included player development, scouting and recruiting, gameday set-up, mentoring players, managing social media accounts, and monthly newsletters. During his time with the Quakers, Earlham had a player lead all of DI, DII, and DIII in 3-point FG %, they recorded the most conference wins in a season in 15 years, and they led all of DIII in 3-point FG % as a team.

White also spent three years prior to Earlham at Lincoln Middle School as the Basketball and Track Coach where he was able to teach young athletes the proper techniques and skills to be successful in each sport.

“We are so excited to welcome Anthony to our program,” said Head Coach Tyler Sanborn. “He brings great enthusiasm, a strong work ethic, and high basketball IQ to our coaching staff. His experiences as a player both at the college and professional level will be a great resource to our student-athletes. Our program and Ferrum College are very fortunate to have him here.”

A native of Indianapolis, Indiana, White was a guard at Land Lake College and eventually ended up at Mercer University, where he was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Tournament Team in 2014. White also led the conference in 3-point percentage (43%) that same year. After his college days, White went overseas to Australia to play in the South East Australian Basketball League for one season, where he was the youngest import in league history (21) and averaged 18 points, four assists and three rebounds a game.

White officially began work at Ferrum on September 14.
