New Williams College head coach Kevin App has added two assistants to his staff.
David Metzendorf
David Metzendorf joins head coach Kevin App’s staff for the 2014-15 academic year as an assistant coach and head junior varsity coach after serving the previous season as a special assistant to the head coach at Cornell University.
Last season Metzendorf assisted the Big Red’s staff in scouting, game plan preparation, coordinated the Big Red’s recruiting, broke down scouting tapes, scheduling, team travel, and handled film exchanges with opponents.
Metzendorf was on the basketball staff at Cornell for four years having served the first three years as the student assistant/basketball operations intern, where he was responsible for designing and organizing recruiting packets, prepared practice plans, and evaluated DVDs submitted by potential recruits. He was also charged with putting players through individual workouts and analyzing advanced statistics.
"I couldn’t be more thrilled to become an Eph," said Metzendorf. "The prestige, history, and passion for Williams basketball is one of a kind, and I’m honored that coach App gave me the opportunity to be included. I’m excited to contribute to Williams’ special basketball tradition and continued success!"
At Williams Metzendorf will serve as the head junior varsity coach, help develop the guards, and will recruit the west coast, Texas, Michigan and Chicago.
A 2013 graduate of Ithaca College, Metzendorf earned a degree in Sport Management, while also minoring in coaching. His cumulative GPA at Ithaca was 3.9.
In May of 2015 Metzendorf will earn a Master’s in Education in Sport Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University, where he is on target to graduate with a 4.0 GPA.
Mick Hedgepeth
Mick Hedgepeth will begin his intercollegiate coaching career during the 2014-15 academic year at Williams working alongside head coach Kevin App and assistant coach David Metzendorf.
"I am blessed and excited to have the opportunity to be an assistant basketball coach at Williams College," stated Hedgepeth. "The rich tradition both academically and athletically makes Williams a special place and provides the ultimate student-athlete experience for our players. As a member of Belmont University’s men’s basketball team, I grew so much both on and off the court under the direction of our coaching staff. Receiving the opportunity to have the same influence on current and future players at Williams is a dream come true. I am looking forward to being a part of the Williams community and cannot wait to meet everyone involved with such a prestigious institution."
A four-year letterman at Belmont University Hedgepeth netted 1,191 points, hitting on 54% of his field goal attempts. He also collected 691 rebounds and blocked 78 shots in his career.
In 2011 Hedgepeth was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament MVP and Second Team all-conference and he helped lead Belmont to the 2012 Sun Atlantic regular season and tournament titles as well.
Hedgepeth graduated from Belmont in 2012 with honors, earning a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in Accounting. He was named to the Dean’s List seven times in eight semesters and was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Male Student-Athlete of the Year in 2012.
During Hedgepeth’s first year out of Belmont he played professionally for Araberri BC in LEB Silver in Spain.
