Williamson named Head Basketball Coach at the University of Saint Katherine

After a nationwide search, Kevin Williamson has been named as the next Men’s Basketball Head Coach at the University of Saint Katherine (CA).

“The future of Firebird Men’s Basketball is bright with Williamson at the helm. Kevin brings an array of experiences from the NCAA Division II level, including his proven ability to recruit high level student-athletes. We are confident that he will fit into USK culture immediately and heighten the programs level of excellence,” said Assistant Athletic Director, Alyssa Ramos.

Williamson spent the 2018-2019 season as the Assistant Coach at Div. II, Cal State San Marcos where he aided in rebuilding the roster including adding the teams top three statistical scoring leaders.

Williamson is well acquainted with NCAA Division II, having spent time at Dixie State, The University of Minnesota Duluth and Bemidji State.

While assisting at Dixie, the team posted a 37-18 record over a two year span and earned themselves a PacWest Co-Championship and an NCAA Tournament Appearance.

While at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, spending 2012-2015 with the Bulldogs, the team would double their win count over a 2 year span, earning an NABC Team Academic Excellence Award along the way for maintaining a 3.0+ GPA all year.

Williamson spent 2010-2012 with Bemidji State as an assistant.  The 2012 season in particular was a highlight, as the Beavers posted a 22-9 overall record, a 16-6 conference record to win the NSIC, as well as making it to the NCAA Division II Tournament.

Williamson had this to say about taking the helm of the USK Men’s Basketball: “I am thrilled to be joining the University of St. Katherine family.  I’m excited to continue the growth of this basketball program and university, and to remain a part of the San Diego community.  I want to thank Athletic Director, Daniel Stange, and Assistant Athletic Directors, Alyssa Ramos and Brad Green, for conducting the search in a professional and quick manner.  Go Firebirds!”

This will be Williamson’s second gig as a head coach at the collegiate level, spending the 2017-2018 season as the head coach of Grays Harbor College in the NWAC.  He brings with him a wealth of experience, coaching high level basketball for the better part of a decade now, and we are excited to have him on board to continue building the USK Men’s Basketball program.

Williamson is a San Diego native and a former NAIA Athlete. He resides with his wife in San Marcos. Welcome, Kevin!
