– A familiar face is joining the Tetons Coaching Staff in Matthew Goodwin. A former All American at Williston State, Coach Goodwin returns to be an assistant coach for men’s basketball. During his playing time at Williston State, Goodwin led the National Junior College Athletic Association in scoring as a sophomore, averaging 24.8 points per game and earned Second Team NJCAA All-America honors. Goodwin was named Mon-Dak Conference and Region Player of the Year in 2005-06. Goodwin graduated from WSC in 2006 and received a full athletic scholarship to the University of the Pacific. Teton Men’s Basketball Head Coach Eric Peterson was asked about the addition of Goodwin to the coaching staff. "Matt is an excellent addition to our staff. He has history here at WSC being in our Hall of Fame and also being an All-American for us. There is no question he will add instant credibility with our players and also future recruits to our program."
After his time as a Teton, Goodwin red shirted his junior campaign at Pacific before transferring to the University Wisconsin-Whitewater. Goodwin played two years at Wisconsin-Whitewater where he was named the 2007-2008 WIAC Player of the Year, Region Player of the Year, and First Team All-American. He helped lead his team to a WIAC title in 2007-2008 season, and births into the DIII national tournament each of his two years as a Warhawk. Goodwin graduated with a BA in Communications, with a Public Relations emphasis and a coaching minor.
Goodwin attended Milwaukee Rufus King High School, where he helped lead the Generals to National rankings and back to back Division One state championships in 2003 and 2004.
Goodwin was inducted in the Teton hall of fame in 2012 and was also a member of the all decade team. He commented on becoming a Teton once again. "It’s great to be back apart of Teton athletics and join Coach Peterson’s staff. The athletic department, college and community are all growing and heading in the right direction and it’s exciting to be involved at this time."
