The Western Kentucky Board of Regents Executive Committee approved an addendum to the contract of Hilltoppers head basketball coach Rick Stansbury. The addendum would bump Stansbury’s annual base salary from $500,000 to $650,000. The addendum to Stansbury’s contract still must be approved Feb. 23 at the next regular meeting of the WKU Board of Regents. Highlights of the deal from the Bowling Green Daily News:

  • Per the addendum, the $150,000 increase has been generated through private funds and is being funded entirely through the Hilltopper Athletic Foundation.
  • The addendum to the contract Stansbury signed upon his March 2016 hire also raises his buyout from $750,000 to $1 million, should either he or WKU terminate the contract without cause.

Also, according to the report, Stansbury’s raise would put him alongside Louisiana Tech’s Eric Konkol as the second-highest-paid coach in Conference USA. Only Kermit Davis of Middle Tennessee ($750,000) makes more in annual base salary than the $650,000 Stansbury is set to draw.
