Robert Morris University head men’s basketball coach Andrew Toole announced that Tray Woodall has been promoted to assistant coach for the Colonials. Woodall joined the RMU staff in June of 2017 and spent last season as the director of basketball operations.
“I’ve been impressed with how much Tray brings to the table to help our program on a day-to-day basis,” Toole said. “It seemed like a natural fit to promote him to assistant coach. I know that he’ll help our student-athletes continue to thrive both on the court and in the classroom.”
A native of Paterson, N.J., by way of the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, N.Y., Woodall joined the staff at Robert Morris after spending the 2016-17 season as an assistant coach at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP). In his first year coaching, Woodall helped guide the Crimson Hawks to an overall record of 28-4 (.875), including a mark of 21-1 (.955) in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). IUP advanced to the second round of the 2017 NCAA Division II Tournament.
Woodall, a 2013 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology and a minor in communications, had a professional career that saw him play in Turkey, Greece and Kosovo as well as Mexico.
While a member of the Panthers, Woodall appeared in 139 career games, including 75 starts. He produced averages of 8.0 points, 4.2 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game while shooting 41.6 percent from the field. Woodall concluded his career with totals of 1,108 points, 580 assists and 116 steals. He is one of seven players in program history to eclipse career totals of 1,000 points and 500 assists.
In eight seasons under Toole, RMU has compiled an overall record of 150-123 (.549), including a mark of 91-51 (.641) against Northeast Conference opponents. Toole has guided the Colonials to a pair of NEC regular-season championships (2013, 2014) as well as the 2015 NEC Tournament title.
Since the beginning of the 2007-08 campaign, Robert Morris has posted an overall record of 223-154 (.592) and has appeared in the NCAA Tournament three times (2009, 2010, 2015), the NIT three times (2008, 2013, 2014) and the 2012 CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT).
