Wright State University – Lake Campus restarts Basketball program; Slaton named Head Coach

Wright State University – Lake Campus is thrilled to announce the addition of a Men’s Basketball program, marking a significant milestone as it becomes the fourth athletics offering on campus and the second program to be revived after previously being available. The men’s basketball team will compete in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), setting the stage for an exciting era of athletics at the Lake Campus.

To lead the basketball program, Wright State University – Lake Campus has appointed Ben Slaton as the Head Coach. Coach Slaton also serves as the Athletic Coordinator for the Lake Campus. Before coming to the Lake Campus in June ’24, Coach Slaton spent three years as a boys’ basketball coach at Spire Academy. Before that, he had coached a Post-Graduate team at the International Sports Academy for one year, where five of his players players advanced to play college basketball at various levels. In 2020, Coach Slaton served as Head Coach for a  U16 team with the Mid Ohio Pumas (Midwest Basketball Club). His connection to Wright State runs deep; he was a Student Manager for the Men’s Basketball Team at Wright State University- Dayton Campus. During his time there, the team went to the NCAA Tournament in 2018 and the NIT in 2019 and qualified for the 2020 NIT prior to the cancellation of that year’s tournament due to COVID-19. Coach Slaton has also coached at numerous high-level camps throughout the country through Hoop Group and All-Academic Basketball.
