Winston Yergler has been hired as an assistant coach on the Bellarmine University men’s basketball staff, head coach Doug Davenport announced.

“We have known Winston for a long time and we’re elated to have him join our program,” Davenport said. “Winston is a passionate teacher and relentless recruiter. His values directly align with those of our program and we’ve already hit the ground running.”

Yergler comes to the Highlands from Bellarmine’s longtime Division II rival, Indianapolis, where he spent one season as an assistant coach.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join Coach Doug Davenport‘s staff,” said Yergler. “I have admired the Bellarmine culture and tradition for years now and I cannot wait to help take the program to new heights. The staff I am joining, I believe, is one of the best in the country and I’m excited to get on the court with them and help bring home more championships to Bellarmine.”

A native of North Judson, Ind., Yergler had spent his entire coaching career in the Hoosier State until coming to Bellarmine.

At UIndy last season, Yergler helped guide junior guard Dashawn Jackson to Second Team All-GLVC status and center Tucker Tornatta to the GLVC All-Freshman Team while the Hounds went 15-13 overall.

Prior to UIndy, he spent the 2023-24 season as an assistant at NAIA Marian University, also in Indianapolis, where he helped lead the Knights to a No. 7 Massey ranking and No. 22 national ranking. Yergler helped secure an at-large bid to the NAIA National Tournament as 10-seed. He was also instrumental in signing the NAIA’s top recruiting class according to Prep Hoops, landing two Indiana All-Stars and four of the state’s top-20 recruits.

Before Marian, Yergler spent two seasons at IUPUI (now IU Indy) from 2021-2023 in a pair of operations roles. He also spent two years in pharmaceutical sales following a pair of seasons at Ball State from 2017-19 where he was graduate manager and special assistant to the head coach. During his time at Ball State, Yergler worked closely with All-MAC performers Tayler Persons and Trey Moses.

Yergler played collegiately for two seasons at Iowa Central Community College before completing his degree at Purdue, where he was a men’s basketball manager. He earned his bachelor’s degree in selling and sales management before earning his master’s in sports administration from Ball State.

He and his wife, Olivia, reside in Fishers, Ind., with their daughter, Monroe.
